Easy Fortune, Happy Life: Episode 1 [recap]
sisa Friday, July 17, 2009 5:29 PM 9loves

"Easy Fortune, Happy Life", the latest drama of Chen Ciao En and Blue Lan under SETTV, has immediately captured my heart. I don't know the reason why I always go for stories with evil guys and innocent girls. I don't know why I love watching idol dramas that feature this kind of love story formula. But for whatever reason it is, I think I'll never get tired spazzing and drooling over evil-handsome lead guys-- and in the case of EFHL, it is Blue Lan. (Gah! He is really HAWT!!! Such a lost on Da S's part. hahaha. pfft)

Well, for those who don't know EFHL, what it offers is a love story between a ruthless heir and an innocent country bumpkin. Yan Da Feng (Blue Lan) is one of the potential heirs of Ba Bao Tang, a famous pharmaceutical firm in Taiwan which markets herbal medicine. Xie Fu An (Joe Chen) is a poor but well-versed herbal expert who will be receiving 80 billion worth of fortune out of a broken promise Da Feng's grandfather gave to Fu An's grandmother.
(What great luck, ei?)

The drama is set to tackle how love can subdue greed and selfishness. It is about how two different people can fall in love amid the impure intentions the guy has for the girl. It's sort of a show about two 'destined individuals'. Talking 'bout destiny I know this series will percolate what former American President Harry Truman said before-- that "...actions are the seed of fate deeds grow into destiny."

Indeed, I strongly believe that we'll see how Fu An, through her actions, will be able to break the formidable walls surrounding Da Feng. Like how Fu An will be able to melt Da Feng's "ice box" (Damn right! Just like how Omarion put it). I highly recommend this drama for enthusiasts like me. BTW, here is the episode guide for dose 1.

The Pack of Wolves and The First Kiss (Episode 1)

Episode 1 starts with Fu An riding a bike and Da Feng's grandfather having a car accident. Fu An is shown to be on a hurry to get to the hospital quickly since she'll be meeting a patient there who is suffering from severe "athlete's foot". On the other hand, our dark prince (Da Feng) and the rest of the Yan family find out that grandpa is critical. They rejoice over this matter. Da Feng is happy to know that his grandfather is ill since this signals his time to be the sole owner of Ba Bao Tang. (He and his greed. Tsk, tsk, tsk)

Tada! Presenting, our dark ruthless prince [the morning after boinking his "girlfriend", Jiang Zhen Zhen]

Auntie, uncle, and his cousin [Yan Yang] are also present in the hospital. Fu An sees how greedy the family is [all deciding not to save the poor old man who is just lying inside the room and partially hearing everything], so she takes matters into her own hands. She sneaks inside and slips a herbal medicine to the patient's mouth. Da Feng sees this and becomes enraged by Fu An's action. Thus, he and the nurse threaten her to be put in jail for giving unprescribed herbal medicine. Fu An's acquaintance (the one who has athlete's foot) and Yan Yang come to her defense, so she manages to come clean.

Later that day, Pi Dan (Fu An's lilttle brother) and Fu An discover a block of camphor [which is being illegally shipped out of the forest]. Fu An lectures Pi Dan since the latter suggests that they should take it and let their grandma cook chicken soup with it. She decides to bring the camphor home and give it to the police station the following day. On the other hand, their grandmother is sick. She is shown writing something (a letter). There is some sort of flashback on Fu An's grandmother's mind. She and Da Feng's grandpa shared a special romance before some 60 years ago. Da Feng's grandpa left and promised to get back with Fu An's grandma, but this did not happen. Grandma Xie thinks of her one and true love. Likewise, Da Feng's grandfather is also thinking of Fu An's grandmother.

Grandpa Yan discloses to his attorney that he'll be declaring his sole heir at his 80th birthday celbration; clearing that he will only give it to the person who cares for him. This time the covetous auntie and uncle Yan plan to be caring of grandpa. They are completely unaware that the riches will all go to Fu An.

Da Feng goes to the mountains and meet Fu An again. This is my favorite part of the first episode. Though it is really sad to know that grandma Xie is going to die, I kindda feel overwhelmed by these scenes since they show a witty and sexy circumstance between the two. I'm sorry but I can't help it. I just find these scenes amazing, so I felt the urge to make screencaps of them.

Our dark prince is pushed into the marsh by our country bumpkin, of course [picture 1, top left side]. The grumpy vulture gets mad at Fu An and starts yelling at her: treating her like his servant and asking her to pull him up [pictures 2 and 3, first row].

However, Fu An does not respond to his command. Instead, our country bumpkin mocks Da Feng and makes fun of him [pictures 1-3, second row]. At the same time, she scolds Da Feng for having interest on camphor. Da Feng, desparate and mad of his situation, laments of how pathetic and lowly Fu An's life is. This sparks a major argument between the two [pictures 1-2, third row].

Fate is indeed playing with these two, as Fu An sees a snake crawling on her feet [picture 3, third row]. Of course, she gets frightened by it and clumsily jumps into the marsh [picture 1, fourth row]. (This is a heartwarmig scene seeing Fu An accidentally hugging Da Feng).

Now, both Da Feng and Fu An are submerged into the marsh. The needy vulture, being a wanting and strong man, starts feeling strange about their situation and "position" [pictures 2-3, fourth row].

Fu An panics because she feels like Da Feng is touching her thighs [picture 1, fifth row] (of course, we all know that it is not Da Feng's hands which touched her, lah). In times like this (having a girl sit on his lap and near his g-r-o-i-n), Da Feng often gets "sexually active". This is what he tries to explain to Fu An.

The innocent Fu An panics all the more because of Da Feng's explanation. To keep things sane Fu An tells Da Feng to think of "innocent and pure thoughts" [picture 2, fifth row]. Fu An talks about how pure a white dove is and uconsciously blurts out about white doves' WHITE EGGS and this fatally helps Da Feng remember a "sexually-based" film [picture 3, fifth row] (this, of course, increased Da Feng's frustration). Thus, making Da Feng feel more enticed.

Fu An, for the second time, tries to help Da Feng think of innocent things. She begins telling a story of her favorite musical instrument. Da Feng curciously asks what it is. Turns out that the instrument is TRUMPHET. Da Feng asks her if she knows HOW TO BLOW. *** Really this scene got me. I never imagined a Taiwan drama will induce such sensual type of humor. Nevertheless, I liked it. The humor, I mean, and how Blue delivered it.*** Poor Da Feng, he is really trying his best to keep his cool and all, but he just can't [see picture 1, sixth row].

The two are stuck on the mud 'til nighttime. After struggling hard to keep their innocence alive, Fu An cracks up a prank on Da Feng. She does not know that the dark prince is indeed afraid of bugs [pictures 2-3, sixth row and picture 1, seventh row].

Fu An finds this funny, so she incessantly continues making fun of Da Feng, who warns her. However, country bumpkin does not heed from his warning an even dare challenge him. As a result, Da Feng kisses her to keep her mouth shut (which was effective by the way). The noisy and frantic Fu An turns quiet for a few minutes. Afterwards, she lets out a big scream claiming that Da Feng ruined her first kiss.
