I know that it is a typical idol drama, but I love how natural the two actors act and how romantic and intellectual their scenes are thought out.

Drama of the Month

a bittersweet story

"The life of Go Eun Chan (Yoon Eun Hye) is not easy; she works many jobs to pay off debts and even gave up her feminine image. Choi Han Kyul (Gong Yoo) is the heir of a big food company, but his grandmother wants him to settle down, so she arranged many dates for him. After Eun Chan bumped into Han Kyul and was mistaken for a boy, Han Kyul decided to hire Eun Chan to be his gay lover in order to avoid the arranged dates. Desperately in need of money, Eun Chan had no choice but to accept. Han Kyul's grandmother also made Han Kyul in charge of a filthy coffee shop in danger of being bankrupt. Eun Chan begged to work at the coffee shop, and not long after, feelings start to spark, except, how would Han Kyul accept his "homosexuality"?" -- DramaWiki

Brilliant Legacy episodes 1 and 2 (edited)
sisa Thursday, July 16, 2009 8:30 AM 2loves

Ok after thinking a lot about what my friends told me regarding the drama "Brilliant Legacy", I finally mustered the stamina to watch the drama and follow it faithfully. ::crosses fingers:: I know I am not that good of a drama critique, but I will try my best to deliver helpful rants and probably some RECAPS.

What I think BL will be?

"Brilliant Legacy", which showcases the stars Lee Seung-Gi (Chil Princesses) and Han Hyo-ju (Spring Waltz), is not that hyped when it started but it has a lot of followers 'til this day. In fact, it has been extended to two more episodes (which is a slight hint of how good the drama has been accepted by Koreans).

SOOMPI threads are oozing with this drama's fanatics. There are posts and discussions here and there. I have read a lot of praises on Lee Sueng-gi's acting stint here. People said that he really is a great actor in this drama-- that has exuded "natural" and "emotional" acting. Judging by what the preview shown (and what I have read from forums), I think this drama will have the usual "roun-and-about" story of "hate-then-love" cycle among the main leads. Of course, third wheels and conforntations.

Moreover, since this drama's standpoint is "the importance of money", I think people will get to see greedy people devouring on others' wealth. I anticipate a lot of evil people will emerge herein since cliche stated that "money is the root of evil".

What my first impression about BL is?

Now, my first impression when I watched the first two episodes was that I was bored to death. I've been trying hard to stay true with my agenda, but unfortunately the episodes failed me. I can't help but fast-forward a lot of times in order to jump over heaps of sh*tty evil conversations.

To make matters worst, I felt like Lee Sueng-Gi is an "urgh-magnet" in this drama the moment I saw him walking. Sadly, it is not because of the character's attitude and personality because I think a spoilt and ruthless person like him holds the key to the plot. It's just that whenever I see him I feel like I am about to throw up or something. I hate his hair here. I don't know what's the messy look all about. (If it is related to his role or not.) But don't you think a nitty-picky brat like him [his character] should at least look N-I-C-E-R.

Frankly, I feel as if watching an ogre and not a dashing prince just because of his hair. I can't even imagine why the other girl in this drama is head-over-heels with Seung-gi's character.

However, I must give credit to the actors here. Yes! And that includes Seung-gi. I know Lee Seung-Gi is better off with variety shows but I can feel for him in the first two episodes. I think he has given his best in the manner he delivered his lines. The way the deliberately shown how liberal, and delinquent he is, is just natural. Moreover, Han Hyo-ju's natural acting here is to die for. I really like her. She acts naturally and delivers lines flawlessly.

What happened?

Basically, I can summarize episodes 1 and 2 with just a few paragraphs (since I found them dead boring. I was even yawning 'til the end of episode 2). The story begins with a weird car-chase then shows Seon Woo-han (Lee Seung-Gi) coming back to South Korea from the States. He is portrayed here to be a brat who does not care about money.

He picks a fight with his grandmother regarding his coveted title as the heir of the family's business. Woo-han does not like the smell of the food their restaurant sells. Hence, he and his grangdmother have a major misunderstand.

He meets with Yoo Seung-mi (Moon Chae-won). The latter is very happy to see the former. Thus, there is an implication that Seung-mi feels something for Woo-han though it is unrequited. Seung-mi is shown here as somewhat Woo-han's love interest. Thus, one can imply that the unending love for "oppa" is what Seung-mi's charcater transpires.

Apart from these boring scenes, the audience can also see how Woo-han and Go Eun-seong (Han Hyo-ju) meet in an awkward and coincidental manner. Their belongings will get switched and Eun-seong will punch Woo-han comically (which I think is just plain retarded and outrageous).

In episode 2, we will also see how Eun-seong's life will become bitter from having a step-mother to losing her father. Han Hyo-ju will be working as a waiter after losing everything including money. During this time she'll be bumping into the arrogant Woo-han for the second time.
